  • Exciting arrival of Paralympic torch across the River Orwell

    Thu 09 May 2024 le

This morning, KS2 pupils gathered excitedly on the river bank to welcome the arrival of a Paralympic torch which travelled across the River Orwell from Nacton CofE Primary School.  A group of Key Stage 2 pupils and the Headteacher, went by rib to collect the torch from Nacton Shores and bring it back to Pin Mill, where the whole school waited in anticipation for its arrival.

The Paralympic Torch, from London 2012, is on a journey from school to school, visiting all 21 primary schools from the St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust.

"As our schools are only across the river from each other, it seemed an exciting opportunity for our children as they begin to learn about the significance of the Olympic and Paralympic games, ahead of Paris 2024. We have strong links with our community and were delighted when Neptune Sailing, Pin Mill Sailing Club and the Coast Guard agreed to help us mark this special occasion and make it a memorable event for our pupils. We were also joined by a photographer from the EADT and local professional photographer, Anthony Cullen.” L. Etchingham

  • Edith May River Walk

    Fri 03 May 2024 le

Despite the rain, pupil of Edith May set off on their walk to Pin Mill, eager to detect seasonal changes as well as patterns in nature, to link with their work in Art this half term. The rain was persistent, but so were the class and it wasn't long before everyone was warm and dry and enjoying a snack and a drink at Pin Mill Sailing  Club. Before enjoying team activities linked to their learning in Geography, the children strolled back to school.

  • Easter Bonnet competition

    Fri 19 Apr 2024 le

In a whirlwind of bright colours and creativity, our Easter Bonnet competition took centre stage at school today. With the theme options - not only birds hatch from eggs, an egg-cellent adventure and a recycling challenge - children from all year groups embraced the challenge and amazed us all.

Some children teamed up with classmates, siblings and/or other family members to bring the competition to life. Mrs Deacon, our Chair of Governors, was extremely impressed by the creative flair and ingenuity shown by all as she judged the competition for each year group. Well done to all entrants!

  • Music Concert

    Tue 26 Mar 2024 le

This afternoon, parents, pupils and staff were treated to a musical delight, as performers from across the school demonstrated their talents at piano, violin, acoustic guitar and electric guitar in duets and group performances. There was also a much admired cameo staff performer to add to the musical mix.

  • Easter Service at St Andrew's Church

    Mon 25 Mar 2024 le

This morning, we held our traditional Easter Service, led by Rev. Leisbeth, at St Andrew's Church. Year 6 pupils spoke confidently to the congregation - made up of pupils, staff, parents, grandparents and members of the parish - narrating the Easter Story and reading prayers they had written.

After the service, the School Council helped plant two fruit trees and a birch tree in the site of the old school, as part of our joint biodiversity project. We blessed the trees and prayed together.

  • Cross Country at RHS

    Wed 20 Mar 2024 le

Well done to our Y4, Y5 and Y6 competitors who showed resilience and courage on Wednesday.

  • Cultural Aspect Day at Chelmondiston

    Mon 18 Mar 2024 le

Today children learnt about what it means to be part of a culture and how lives for people can be different. Children considered what events they celebrate with their family and community and how this might be different for other people. Older pupils discussed whether stereotypes exist and if so, if they are correct.

  • World Book Day 2024

    Fri 08 Mar 2024

For this year's World Book Day, the children were invited to dress up as adjectives (describing words) in what we hoped would be a celebration not just of stories but of language itself.  We were delighted and thoroughly impressed by the children's costume efforts. With adjectives such as, bedraggled, whimsical, compassionate and experimental, the children showed their creativity and ingenuity.  Well done, everyone.

  • Twilight Tales

    Thu 07 Mar 2024

To celebrate this year's World Book Day, we hosted a special 'Twilight Tales' event, in which we invited the children to return to school in the pyjamas for hot chocolate and a bed time story.  The Year 6 children, who read these stories, brought them to life with props, dressing up clothes and puppets.  A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all.  A special shout out for our excellent Year 6 readers.

  • Dog Safety Blue Cross visit

    Wed 07 Feb 2024 LE

Today we welcomed Jan, from the Blue Cross, who led a special assembly about being safe with dogs.  Many of our children own dogs and/or encounter them on a daily basis, after all, they are often known as 'man's best friend' - at school, we wanted to find out more about how we can enjoy their company as well as stay safe.

Children learnt about the 3 Cs when greeting a dog:

Check (ask the owner first), Call (call the dog to you) and Count (count three strokes then stop, to give the dog the chance to move away).

Jan also told the children some pointers about how to read dog body language as well as talking about other animals that children might encounter when out and about or visiting friends.
